Scarlet Macaws - watercolour and gouache on board 60 x 40 cm

After graduating from art college I spent most of my working life as a Medical Artist/Illustrator in the NHS at London teaching hospitals.  A very varied, interesting and absorbing career.

Now retired, I still can’t stop drawing and painting. I work mainly in ink, watercolour and gouache. Also occasionally using pastel, graphite or acrylic.  I enjoy producing very detailed artwork, possibly because of medical art training where we were encouraged to observe everything very closely.  An approach which although essential when working could in day to day life sometimes cause problems!

I am interested in a wide variety of subjects, in fact anything which catches my eye and sparks my imagination and I love colour, working in both a realistic style and in a more illustrative graphic way.  Some of my bird and animal paintings are now in private collections and I have exhibited my work in solo exhibitions and in galleries over the years.

I enjoy making illustrative style still life ‘nature’ studies and also drawings and paintings depicting the lighter side of life, the perfect antidote to a working life mostly spent on serious themes.
