Shauna Charron
I began making ceramics and pottery at a further education evening class in 2011 where I learnt the basic skills of hand building before progressing to throwing. After a year of throwing practice, I decided that hand building was where my focus belongs.
After a few years of learning, as is the case for many amateur potters, my evening classes became a place to explore my own self-directed ambitions rather than following structured lessons. Without a home studio, I simply didn't have space beyond my kitchen table.
In 2021 I moved from Reading to Framlingham and joined the Woodbridge Art Club pottery group where I had the time, space, and courage to start showing my work at the club exhibitions. I thank my colleagues and fellow pottery club members for helping me find my courage.
My hand-built sculptural work is inspired by natural forms. My main techniques include coiling, pinching, and slab building in stoneware. I decorate with coloured slips, underglazes, oxides, and glazes.
